- Maintain in-depth knowledge of category areas and supply markets, including sustainability-related developments.
- Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts to define action plans for cost optimization and responsible sourcing.
- Drive cost reduction and lead negotiation strategies using tools such as benchmarking, tendering, and value engineering.
- Manage Supplier Relationships, including performance tracking and improvement initiatives.
- Oversee Contract Management, ensuring alignment with legal, operational, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.
- Monitor supplier and category performance, initiating corrective actions where needed.
- Engage internal stakeholders to align procurement needs with external market capabilities and institutional priorities.
- Implement procurement strategies across categories such as Human Resource Services (Recruitment Agency), Contract for Services, Insurance, Travel Management, and Sustainability.
- Segment and manage supplier relationships, driving continuous improvement and performance tracking.
- Lead change management initiatives to reduce non-value-added activities and promote responsible procurement practices.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies and collaborate with Internal Audit and Legal on contract governance.
- Lead cross-functional negotiations to deliver savings and value across cost, quality, speed, and sustainability.
- Regularly review and optimize supplier base to align with internal needs and external market conditions.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Tertiary in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Supply Chain, Procurement, or related discipline).
- Strong knowledge of supply base and category-specific trends.
- Experience in Indirect (Professional Services) Procurement and Category Management.
- Ability to develop Commodity Strategies that reflect stakeholder needs and category attributes.
- Proficiency in Ariba Source-to-Contract (S2C) and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks, supplier codes of conduct, and risk mitigation practices.
- Ability to influence stakeholders on technical and strategic requirements.
- Provide market intelligence and category roadmaps to support decision-making.
- Drive change by engaging suppliers to meet institutional needs at optimal cost, quality, speed, and sustainability impact.
- Collaborate with Schools, Offices, Centres & Institutes (SOCIs) and stakeholders across SMU to define category strategies, optimize procurement processes, and lead negotiations.
- Engage with external suppliers to manage risks, execute improvement actions, and ensure alignment with SMU's strategic direction and compliance standards.
- Take full accountability for assigned categories, including strategy development, supplier base analysis, and delivery of cost and performance targets.
- Lead the development of commodity strategies based on internal requirements and external market dynamics.
- Analyze category spend and stakeholder requirements to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Explore innovative sourcing approaches and process improvements by engaging stakeholders and suppliers.
- Develop and implement tailored category strategies that drive cost savings, operational efficiency, and sustainability outcomes.
