What the role is:The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (“CCCS”) is a statutory board of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. CCCS administers and enforces the Competition Act (Cap. 50B) which empowers CCCS to investigate and adjudicate anti-competitive activities, issue directions to stop and/or prevent anti-competitive activities and impose financial penalties. CCCS is also the administering agency of the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act (Cap. 52A) which protects consumers against unfair trade practices in Singapore. Our mission is to make markets work well to create opportunities and choices for business and consumers in Singapore.What you will be working on:CCCS's Legal & Enforcement Divisions provide CCCS with the legal and enforcement expertise necessary for CCCS to perform the functions and discharge the duties under the Competition Act. Legal officers are actively involved in conducting investigations, advising other government agencies on competition matters and analysing the merits of notifications for guidance or decision, and merger filings. In addition, Legal officers also undertake critical review of the Competition Act, subsidiary legislation and CCCS's guidelines and perform in-house legal advisory work required in the execution of CCCS's functions and represent CCCS in all court and appeal proceedings.What we are looking for:Interns in CCCS are given responsibilities, with opportunities to experience real-work assignments / projects under professional guidance. During your internship, you will be given the opportunity to observe and participate in the work undertaken by the Legal & Enforcement Divisions. Besides contributing to legal and industry research, you may also participate in reviews of the relevant legislation and guidelines; and where appropriate, you may be involved in case investigations and policy projects.
