
Engineering Manager, Cards

- We want any file that Stripe receives from a bank or card network, no matter its size, format, or quirks, to be reliably transformed into clean trusted data that powers our payments systems.
- We want early detection of malformed or missing files, with intuitive and ergonomic built-in tooling for investigating and fixing these issues.
- We want the processing of these files to be fast and cost-effective, ensuring we have real time access.
- We want developers to be able to set up a new file ingestion flow in hours, not weeks, while still ensuring the correctness, auditability, and security of these flows.
- Lead the team to design, build, and operate a highly reliable service that ingests and processes key financial reporting that powers cards payments at Stripe
- As the editor-in-chief of your team's plans, define and drive the roadmap and priorities for your team
- Establish close feedback loops with customer teams and collaborate closely with partner teams
- Foster a high level of technical excellence on the team
- Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe's recruiting team
- Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
- Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe's engineering management team
- Thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility
- Enjoy acting as both product owner and engineering leader: you're comfortable talking with users, distilling fuzzy needs into a roadmap, and then guiding engineers to deliver with quality
- Communicate clearly with audiences ranging from staff engineers to non-technical partners
- Have successfully shipped and operated critical infrastructure, where correctness, performance, and scalability are key
- Are curious: you enjoy learning and diving into the nuts-and-bolts of how things work - in this role, you'll learn a ton about global money movement rails, card payments, finance and accounting, and more
- Lead with humility, bringing a growth mindset to the team
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience with a minimum of 10+ years of experience with software development
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role and overseeing strategic projects, including 3+ years of people management experience
- Built diverse teams to tackle challenging technical problems
- Thrived in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
