Job Title: Shipping Operations InternContract Type: Internship ContractTime Type:Job Description:Summary of CompanyClearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of Guvnor Group, is one of the largest charterers of tanker vessels in the world and an operator of tankers and VLGC (Very Large Gas Carrier) vessels and cargoes. With a highly motivated and experienced team of freight traders and operators throughout the world, Clearlake Shipping effectively covers any chartering needs that the Group or market may have at any given time. Since 2003, Clearlake Shipping has operated around a high-quality fleet of tankers, LPG carriers and vessels both on a spot and a time-charter basis to accommodate Gunvor’s growing needs for ocean transportation across all major ocean routes, in addition to the needs of the third-party business. Clearlake Shipping’s activities include chartering an average of 1,500 vessels annually, crude oil, products, LPG, LNG, freight hedging (FFA), operations, claims handling, and terminal safety consultations.Overview of RoleThis internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and insight into the workings of the commodity trading industry, with a strong focus on Shipping Operations. Interns will be exposed to various functions including Voyage Control, Claims, Chartering, Vetting, and Ship Performance. This role provides an excellent learning platform in a dynamic and international work environment, alongside experienced professionals.Main Responsibilities
  • Gain a foundational understanding of Tanker Operations.
  • Understands the dynamics of handling owner and miscellaneous voyage-related payments.
  • Learn and understand the calculation for voyage-related claims such as demurrage and port claims.
  • Learn from Freight Traders and the Chartering team about various types of cargo/voyage fixtures.
  • Learn from the Vetting team in understanding the clearance procedures for operated tankers.
  • Learn about Voyage Performance of the daily performance of time-chartered vessels.
  • Participate in various projects and initiatives across the Shipping and Support teams.
ProfileThe ideal candidate will demonstrate the following (not all are mandatory):
  • Pursuing a university degree in Maritime Studies or a related field.
  • Keen interest in Shipping or Oil Transportation.
  • Strong communication and business writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and preferably Power BI.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Availability to commit to a full-time, 5-day work week for a 6-month internship period.
