Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated and creative computational biologist to join our team at the Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation (SynCTI), housed within the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Centre for Engineering Biology (NCEB).The selected Research Fellow will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and our research team on projects aimed at advancing sustainable bioproduction. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension. We welcome applications from PhD holders, including those without prior experience.Ideal candidates will possess expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), bioinformatics, and biology. We strongly encourage applicants with a demonstrated proficiency in developing ML/AI-driven biodesign models, particularly in the context of understanding and predicting microbial cellular mechanisms and cell design principles. The successful candidate will assume a pivotal role in enhancing our AI capabilities, fostering innovative solutions, and contributing to pioneering research in engineering biology.Join us in our pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries and transformative advancements in the field of synthetic biology!Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Research Fellow is expected to: * Conduct research and development in ML and AI to analyze biological datasets.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate ML models and algorithms to develop and optimize cell models based on computational approaches.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend appropriate computational software and hardware requirements to enable timely data analysis.
  • Explore new techniques, methodologies, and technologies to improve the performance and efficiency of AI systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into existing workflow.
  • Generate reports and presentation materials to update research findings.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
QualificationsThe applicant should: * PhD degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python, R, Julia or similar programming languages.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis and familiarity with relevant databases and resources (e.g., NCBI, ENSEMBL, TCGA).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Motivated individual with a keen interest in biology and a willingness to learn.
