Responsibilities:
  • Ensure vessels meet all applicable safety, environmental, and maritime regulatory standards, including class and flag state compliance.
  • Manage the daily technical operations of the tugboat fleet, ensuring alignment with internal policies and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee and coordinate routine maintenance, repair activities, and dry-docking to maintain vessel readiness and reliability.
  • Provide immediate technical assistance for any operational disruptions or breakdowns, working closely with shipboard engineers and external service providers to resolve issues promptly.
  • Conduct regular vessel audits and inspections to assess condition, ensure certification validity, and uphold safety standards.
  • Prepare and control annual maintenance and repair budgets for the fleet.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and coordinate planned dockings, ensuring effective execution and minimal disruption.
  • Track maintenance expenditures and keep spending within budgeted limits.
  • Facilitate crew technical training and onboarding to enhance familiarity with systems and operational readiness; participate in safety drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Maintain accurate technical records for each vessel, covering inspections, repairs, and routine servicing; generate technical reports for management on fleet performance and condition.
  • Lead technical projects including vessel retrofits, system upgrades, and modifications, coordinating third-party contractors and suppliers.
  • Carry out other responsibilities assigned by the Management team.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
  • STCW-certified (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping)
  • Certificate of Competency (COC Class 2) preferred
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in a Technical Superintendent role
  • Familiar with electrical and automation systems
  • Experience with tugboat operations is an advantage
  • Solid knowledge of maritime operations and industry regulations
  • Sea-going experience is beneficial
  • Strong ability to manage technical aspects of vessel operations
  • Willing to travel when needed
  • Excellent troubleshooting and decision-making skills
  • Skilled in project and maintenance planning, particularly for fleet operations
