The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a Research Fellow (post-doctoral scholar) with a focus on Phase Field modelling and High-Performance Computing (HPC) for geophysical applications. The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability. For more details, please view .This position is part of a new project hosted at the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) to push forward the use of phase field models in earthquake rupture dynamics and fluid-driven fracture processes. The project bridges applied geophysics and computational mechanics, and is jointly developed with the Computational Mechanics Group at ETH Zurich. The selected candidate will join the Computational Geophysics Lab of Asst. Prof. Luca Dal Zilio as a Research Fellow and collaborate with Prof. Laura De Lorenzis (ETH Zurich), to implement robust, scalable solvers for coupled deformation-fracture-fluid systems. The project will develop advanced simulation tools to explore brittle failure and fracture-fluid interactions in the context of enhanced geothermal systems, CO2 sequestration, and earthquake physics. This position is ideal for candidates excited about computational science, HPC, and building powerful tools to simulate complex geological processes.Key Responsibilities:Implement efficient and scalable numerical solvers for 2D and 3D phase field modelsDevelop HPC-ready simulation pipelines for large-scale rupture and fracture-fluid systemsOptimize performance for modern architectures including GPUs and parallel clustersIntegrate existing physical models into new software infrastructure for EOS researchBenchmark against existing methods and support reproducible, open-science practicesCollaborate closely with NTU Singapore and ETH Zurich researchers across theory and applicationsJob Requirements:Ph.D. in Computational Science, Geophysics, Engineering, or a related fieldStrong experience in numerical methods (FEM/FVM) and scientific computingProficiency in Julia, C++, or Python and experience with HPC environmentsInterest in geophysical applications, fracture modeling, or multiphysics simulationsAbility to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary settingASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibilities, or disability. We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.Hiring Institution: NTU
