[What the role is] The Pollution Control 1 Division (PCD1) is responsible for the control of air and water pollution, hazardous substances, and toxic industrial waste under the Environmental Protection Management Act, Environmental Public Health Act, Hazardous Waste (Control of Export, Import and Transit) Act and their relevant Regulations. The Chemical Control and Management Department (CCMD) of PCD1 oversees the management of hazardous substances and toxic industrial wastes to safeguard Singapore's environment and public health.You will be part of the team in CCMD for managing and reviewing regulatory controls on hazardous substances.[What you will be working on][What you will be working on]Develop, review, and enhance policies for the environmentally sound management of hazardous substances, toxic industrial waste and hazardous wasteLead stakeholder engagement and consultations for the development and review of environmental policies and regulationsEvaluate hazardous substances and toxic industrial waste facilities through licence application assessments and site inspections to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and requirementsProcess transboundary movement of hazardous waste by evaluating Basel Permit applications, TradeNet declarations, and executing Prior Informed Consent (PIC) notifications to ensure compliance with Basel Convention requirementsRepresent PCD1 and NEA to provide technical expertise on chemical and environmental pollution control in inter-agency and cross-departmental committees and working groupsSupport PCD1 and NEA's operations through workplace safety and health management, after-hours pollution incident response duties, workflow process improvements, etc[What we are looking for][What we are looking for]Degree in Chemical Engineering or related fieldAt least 2 years of relevant working experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing operations, pollution control or environmental managementInterest in environmental protection and adept at working with different stakeholdersStrong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to articulate analysis and recommendations in clear and concise termsA good team player with strong interpersonal skillsHighly motivated and able to work independently where necessaryMeticulous with an eye for detailDriven, resourceful, organised, and able to multi-taskAs part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.Applicants will be updated on the status of their applications within 4 weeks of the closing date of this job posting.
