- Perform and supervision of blood collection and dispatch properly labeled specimens to the laboratory in accordance with laboratory protocols and standard universal precautions
- Navigate the hospital system to perform specimen collection according to tests ordered
- Navigate Laboratory Information System to perform functions such as order entry (only if required), sample receipt, result query and result entry.
- Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders (ie Lab, Nursing, Clinicians, admin) to improve workflow and processes of the section.
- Perform laboratory test or POCT if assigned. Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols. Alert appropriate personnel of critical values with relevant documentation
- Perform quality control procedures, interpret and review of QC results when necessary. Implement corrective actions and investigations as required.
- Undertake preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and safety equipment. Notify appropriate personnel when these instruments malfunction.
- Oversee and management of lab supplies inventory.
- Report any adverse incidents to senior member of staff. Assist in the investigation and documentation of adverse incidents.
- Handle customers' query, concern and feedback professionally. Assist with investigation and documentation of feedback as required.
- Perform shift duties as required.
- Keep current with new advancements in area of assignment.
- Comply with good laboratory practice as set out by the laboratory Accreditation Programme of the College of American Pathologist and Singapore regulatory agencies.
- Comply with all requirements of the Laboratory Safety Manual
- Comply to DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values.
- Promptly carry out instruction(s) of senior staff with regards to work procedures and duties.
- Conduct in-service education and continuing education classes.
- Assist with planning of staff roster as required.
- Coach/ train trainees and new staff if assigned.
- Assist RO in monitoring of staff performance and identify their training needs.
- Conduct staff total performance management reports for the team.
- Monitor and track all quality assurance activities under the area of purview.
- Improve, identify and implement changes in the work process of the phlebotomy service
- Undertake back-up procedures in the event of emergencies such as downtime.
- Participate in evaluation and procurement of laboratory supplies when required.
- Participate in routine laboratory administrative work such as filling, processing of deliver order, invoices etc.
- Any other duties as assigned by RO and/or Section Leader.
- Drafting and updating laboratory protocols when required.
- Participate and contribute to project teams and department meetings.
- Liaison with LIS (laboratory information system) team for IT related issues and work plan
- Assist with the preparation of annual workplan.
- At least 5 years of experience in performing venepuncture for blood specimens' collection and 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in supervising a team.
- Practical knowledge of hospital operations.
- Good general health and no colour blindness.
- Basic computer literacy in proficiency in laboratory information system.
- Service oriented and customer focused.

- Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload as part of a team.
