Job DescriptionThe Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore is a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to developing new paradigms in biomedical research. We focus on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes in pathogenesis (ranging from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function. We are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to make an impact in the fields of mechanobiology and cellular aging. The selected candidate will work on the fundamental mechanisms of how perturbations in the nuclear envelop impact cellular function, aging and senescence. He/ She will have the opportunity to work in a world-class research institute with access to a highly interdisciplinary team of biologists, physicists and engineers in Singapore.Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on primary human cell types and organoids
  • Conduct cell culture experiments including genetic manipulation (via CRISPR-Cas9-based editing & lentiviral transduction)
  • Perform DNA, RNA and protein analyses using basic and advanced molecular biology techniques
  • Prepare written reports and deliver oral presentations; liaise with various research groups within MBI and without
  • Provide mentoring to Research Officers/ Interns within the lab
Qualifications
  • A PhD in Life Sciences/ Biological Sciences or related fields, with a proven track record
  • A strong background in molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Extensive experience in cell culture and skills in tissue sectioning and staining (immunohistochemistry)
  • Experience in genome editing, cloning and molecular biology technique (PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting etc.)
  • Microscopy skills (ImageJ, quantitative Immunofluorescence microscopy)
  • Knowledge of mechanobiology, senescence, DNA damage response pathways will be highly advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to prepare clear and concise presentations and reports
  • Good organization and management skills
  • Highly motivated; outstanding ablility to work independently as well as part of a team
