
Commodities Legal - Vice President

- The role is diverse and involves advising on a wide range of derivative and structured transactions with a commodities underlying. The actual tasks that the candidate will be involved in will vary from time to time, depending on business strategy and initiatives, but could include the following:
- Providing legal advice on structured transactions, including secured hedging transactions, structured note issuances with a commodities underlying or structured commodity derivatives trade.
- Providing legal advice on new/existing products, including:
- Assisting with legal questions that arise in the negotiation of various commodities master trading agreements, and any negotiation arising in respect of bespoke transaction confirmations.
- Advising on and assisting with access to new venues and registrations to trade in existing/new/expanded markets
- Assessing and advising on regulatory requirements relating to existing/new/expanded markets
- Helping with the development of template documentation for trades in such new markets or asset classes.
- Monitoring updates to, and advising on, applicable regulation (including regulation specific to commodities).
- Other ad-hoc queries, which may include reviewing other types of documentation, including (e.g. services agreements, NDAs or broker agreements).
- Providing support to the international commodities business, working closely with colleagues in EMEA Commodities Legal
- Lawyer with strong derivatives trading and structured transaction experience.
- Experience in advising on both commodity derivatives trading and physical commodities trading would be preferred, but not essential.
- Legal qualification in a major financial centre.
- Good knowledge of how Commodities markets function and underlying regulatory framework.
- At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
