Responsibilities
  • Perform surveys and inspections on merchant ships, yachts, and marine equipment, including hull structures, machinery, safety systems, and other onboard installations
  • Review, assess, and approve electrical drawings and related documentation for newbuilds and conversion projects
  • Ensure adherence to classification rules, international statutory codes (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL), and flag state requirements
  • Produce precise, clear, and timely reports for surveys and plan approvals
  • Offer technical advice and support to clients and fellow surveyors
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with shipowners, shipyards, designers, and flag authorities
  • Take part in technical and design discussions with shipyards and naval architects
  • Stay informed on the latest regulatory and technical developments within the maritime sector
Requirements
  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline; OR
  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 1 as a Marine Engineer Officer
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical plan approval with a recognized classification society
  • Strong understanding of IMO conventions, regulations, and classification rules
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and travel as needed
  • Previous experience as a class surveyor is an advantage but not essential
