You will be part of a team of marine professionals whose duties may include conducting inspections on ships to verify conformance with international and national regulations, investigating marine incidents, conducting training on maritime safety and pollution prevention, monitoring developments in international conventions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and updating the national shipping regulations. Other duties may include overseeing navigational safety and security in port, regulating marine traffic, enforcing port regulations, coordinating search and rescue operations, auditing port security measures and implementing maritime security measures.You should possess a Certificate of Competency (Deck) Class 1 or COC 1 (Motorship) and working experience onboard ocean-going vessels either in the deck or engine department for at least 3 years. For candidates who do not possess the COC1 qualification, he/she should possess qualification in engineering discipline (i.e. Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering) from a tertiary institution and have work experiences in a related function for at least 3 years. Candidates with working experience as Master/Chief Engineer on ocean-going vessels as well as piloting experience will have an added advantage.
