What the role is:Project Title: Review of how countries have responded to changes in workforce needs and workplace norms and recommend lessons for Singapore. The last decade has brought about many changes to workforce needs and workplace norms, accelerated by COVID and technological developments. The intern will support our efforts to study how other countries have responded to these changes, and the lessons for Singapore. In particular, the intern will look at the implications of these responses on Singapore's own labour legislation. The intern will also look at new policy tools to shape employer behaviour. Often, it seems that the most straightforward way to shape workplace norms and employer behaviour is to legislate. However, there are downsides to legislation: legislation also makes employment relationships more rigid and transactional, makes it more costly for employers to hire, and requires additional enforcement resources to be effective. It is therefore important to also be able to effectively shape workplace norms without legislation. Learning Outcome: Identify implications and recommendations for Singapore from reviewing countries' responses to changing workforce needs and workplace norms. What you will be working on:Identify implications and recommendations for Singapore from reviewing countries' responses to changing workforce needs and workplace norms. What we are looking for:Strong personal communication skills.About Ministry of Manpower:The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) aims to develop a productive workforce and progressive workplaces, for Singaporeans to have better jobs and a secure retirement.
