Job Description:Our client is a global, full service law firm with a number of offices throughout Asia. This is a new position to be based in Singapore, overseeing knowledge management and research services operations for the firm's Asian offices.You will be part of a global team, responsible for supporting the research needs of the lawyers in Asia including promoting the development and utilization of innovative research-related technology. As a Manager within the team, you will be responsible for supervision and management of direct reports.Primary responsibilities
  • Performs high-level research and ensures that all requests are responded to in a timely manner and to the highest standards.
  • Liaises with Asia-located vendors and works closely with the Research Resources team on office- or region- specific contract renewals and new purchases.
  • Works closely with the Research Resources team on all Asia office collection development matters and budget-related processes.
  • Collaborates with the Department’s centralized Research Resources and Training & Engagement teams to evaluate new research resources, methods, and technology, and to provide related training support to the Firm’s lawyers and staff.
  • Collaborates with the Firm’s larger Knowledge Management & Practice Services group on various initiatives as appropriate or as needed. This may include participating in technology implementation pilot groups and providing detailed feedback on KM projects.
  • May provide subject-matter expertise to support one or more of the Firm’s practice areas.
  • Provides resource-specific and/or technology-specific expertise to support the Firm’s innovation efforts, particularly with respect to research analytics and hybrid research/legal workflow tools.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments affecting the fields of legal and business research; proactively shares knowledge with teammates.
  • Utilizes the Department’s workflow software to record and manage research and some administrative tasks.
  • Actively participates in Departmental meetings, projects, and initiatives.
  • Facilitates the development of staff by providing opportunities and support; provides timely feedback on work product; regularly coaches, evaluates, and recognizes staff performance and accomplishments.
Candidate requirements
  • The local jurisdiction’s equivalent of a U.S. Master's degree in Information or Library Science; or
  • 5 - 7 years equivalent experience; or
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Law firm or other professional services experience will be an advantage but not essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Proficiency using Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, VitalLaw, litigation and transactional analytics tools (ex., LexMachina), and/or regional-specific industry-standard research tools.
